Changing your address

Employee Self-Service (ESS) includes employee's home address which is the official address used for tax and health benefit purposes. It also includes mailing address, which is used for the Commuter Benefits program. The HR representative may request proof of residency at a later time to ensure that the employee meets the NYC Residency Requirements for City employees. For specific information on employee residency requirements, employees can go to "Popular Links" on the Employee Self-Service Portal, DCAS Personel Services bulletin on residency requirements, or see their agency HR representative.

Note: The City does not use PO Box address, please enter the actual physical address.

Address changes take effect in ESS immediately.

To change your Home Address

From the ESS navigation menu, do the following:

  1. Click Employee Self Service.

  2. Click Personal Information.

  3. Click Home/Mailing Address

  4. Click the Edit button next to the row displaying an address of Address Type = Home

  5. Update your address as appropriate, using the following guidelines.

  6. State field: Click the Lookup () icon to look up the two-digit state code.

  7. County field: Click the Lookup () icon to look up the one-digit county code.

    a. The change takes effect immediately.

  8. Click the Submit button.

  9. Click the OK button.

To enter your Mailing Address

Note: A mailing address is required for participation in the Commuter Benefits program. Please enter a mailing address even if it is the same as your home address.

From the ESS navigation menu, do the following:

  1. Click Employee Self Service.

  2. Click Personal Information.

  3. Click Home/Mailing Address.

  4. Select Mail from the Address Type drop-down field.

  5. Click the Add button.

  6. Enter your address as appropriate, using the following guidelines.

  7. State field: Click the Lookup () icon to look up the two-digit state code.

  8. County field: Click the Lookup () icon to look up the one-digit county code.

    a. The change takes effect immediately.

  9. Click the Submit button.

  10. Click the OK button.

To change your Mailing Address

From the ESS navigation menu, do the following:

  1. Click Employee Self Service.

  2. Click Personal Information.

  3. Click Home/Mailing Address.

  4. Click the Edit button next to the row where Address Type is Mail.

  5. Update your address as appropriate, using the following guidelines.

  6. State field: Click the Lookup () icon to look up the two-digit state code.

  7. County field: Click the Lookup () icon to look up the one-digit county code.

    a. The change takes effect immediately.

  8. Click the Submit button.

  9. Click the OK button.
