Future dated benefits changes

When an employee makes a benefits election, it will go into effect on the date corresponding with the following event types:

  • New hire: The date of hire.

  • New hire with 90 day waiting period: The first day of the first pay period 90 days after the date of hire.

  • Qualifying event: The date of the qualifying event (date of birth, marriage).

  • transfer period: The change is made in the fall and is effective in January of the following year.

If an employee experiences a qualifying life event during the transfer period after having made a transfer period change, the employee must contact his or her agency benefits representative or NYCAPS Central, whichever is applicable, for assistance.
